The purpose of the Fire Investigation Unit is to examine a fire scene where the cause of the blaze is unknown or if a member of the public has passed away or been injured by the fire. Working closely with the Metropolitan Police Service, FIU are a vital part of LFB’s aim to prevent fires happening in the first place.

Special Operations Group is made up of specialized Brigade personnel who are trained to go into the hot zone of terrorist attacks to triage casualties and Detect Identify and Monitor CBRN material. They regularly train with firearms officers to ensure the best response to an incident. They also join firearms officers in pre-planned operations or when medical care is required in a hostile situation.

The Rapid Response Team is stationed at H22, and responds to CBRN incidents. Utilising a government funded vehicle they have a range of equipment to Detect Identify and Monitor unknown substances at a range of incidents; from gas leaks to terror attacks, and meth labs to chemical leaks, RRT crews are specially trained to a nationally recognised standard.

The Fire Safety Team is located at LFB Headquarters and ensures the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 is adhered to in public buildings where Civilians are working. They also host safety events to prevent members of BRCC falling victim to fire in real life.

A retained Firefighter, also known as a RDS Firefighter, is a professional Firefighter who may have full-time employment outside of the fire service but responds to emergency calls within their local area, as and when required.
